From molecule to cure: the Molecular Biotechnology Center (MBC) of the University of Turin at Trieste Next 2025

The Molecular Biotechnology Center (MBC) of the University of Turin was presented during Trieste Next – Festival of Scientific Research 2025 in Italy. With almost 500 researchers and 40 research groups, MBC is a leading hub in biotechnology, advanced therapies (ATMP), gene therapy, and CAR-T innovation.

During the Trieste Next – Festival of Scientific Research 2025, the book “Dalla molecola alla cura, l’MBC di Torino” (PostEditori) was officially presented.

The event featured an engaging discussion with the author Noemi Penna, Prof. Lorenzo Silengo, and Prof. Silvio Aime from the University of Turin, moderated by Marco Panara. Through direct experiences and insights, the speakers emphasized how scientific progress is not a final destination, but a continuous journey of intuitions, setbacks, and achievements.

The discussion and the book shed light on the Molecular Biotechnology Center (MBC) of the University of Turin: a national and international hub with nearly 500 researchers and 40 research groups, actively contributing to global scientific projects.

Prof. Silengo and Prof. Aime unveiled the “behind the scenes” of MBC: a place where science, technology, and biotech innovation converge to deliver meaningful progress in health. The book also highlights the stories of many “returning brains” who chose Turin as their place for innovation and research.

A key section of the book is Chapter 4, which focuses on the MBC Cell Factory and its pioneering work in cell and gene therapies and CAR-T therapies. With authorization for CAR-T production, the facility is preparing to launch a new clinical trial within the year, centered on personalized gene therapy — a powerful tool against cancer.

The main message from the event and the book is clear: supporting research means investing in knowledge, health, and the future. “Dalla molecola alla cura, l’MBC di Torino” provides an exclusive insight into a center that continues to redefine the boundaries of scientific research in Italy and beyond.
